September 23-24, 2022 - Triple Tree Fly-In Part One

Parked under the trees at Triple Tree.

A lot of people come to Triple Tree in their recreational vehicles.

I arrived at Triple Tree Thursday afternoon.  The big event Thursday is the "Cook Your Own Steak" diner.   Here, people are waiting outside the main hangar for the dinner to start.

People lined up to get their steak.  Can't wait!

Each person got a raw steak, then proceeded to the glowing-red-hot grills.

Keeping a close eye on my steak!  By some miracle, my steak came out perfect.

Dining in the late afternoon shadows.  It was a very pleasant evening.  That's a bar setup on the left.

That night, down at the south end, a live band performed.  They were excellent; played a lot of my favorite songs.  Check out that fire-globe to the right!  Custom-built for Triple Tree.  It's a large steel globe.

Another look at the fire globe.

The next morning -- Friday -- it's time to check out all the planes.

Mostly RVs on this row of planes in day parking.

Shark mounth RV comes in for landing.

Big DeHavilland Beaver on amphibious floats greases it on.

I did a double-take when this black and silver RV-8 flew in.  The paint scheme is almost exactly like mine!

Looking good!

Nice nose art.

Rich and Nhu-An arrive in their Cessna 172.

A big Grumman G-44 Widgeon flying boat arrives.

Unusual paint scheme and color on this RV-8.

Big Twin Beech.

Bright yellow Husky.

Classy Stinson.

Looking down the taxiway that leads to the camping area.  The camping area filled up so they just let people set up their tents by their planes in the day parking area.

Combination day parking and camping area.

Rich and Nhu-an have their tent and hammock set up already.

Rich and Nhu-An happy to be here.

Like the Navy trainer paint scheme on this RV-7A.

Pretty little RV-3.

Unusual bronze and black paint scheme on this Stearman.

Looking north across the pond at the southern end of the field.

Probably the nicest paint job I've ever seen on an Ercoupe.  This Ercouple was flying around a lot later after the evening meal.

Yay, Triple Tree!  Last time I was here a few years ago, it was stupid hot.  This year wasn't bad at all, temperature-wise.

A couple of nice-looking RVs.

Whoops!  One of the big radio-controlled ships didn't make it.

RV-8 about to taxi out.

Getting ready to go aviating.

Beautifully polished Swift.

And another one.

A genuine P-40 Warhawk.

The tower keeps an eye on flight operations.

Those Swift boys really know how to polish aluminum.

Never seen a four-bladed wood prop before.  It's a homebuilt CP-750; also known as a Piel Beryl.  It's a French twin-seat, single-engine sport aircraft designed by Claude Piel.

The Beaver owner knows how to relax.

Looking up runway 3, from the school bus.

A good look at the control tower with a Super Chipmonk sitting at its base.

The Friday dinner was “A Taste of Triple Tree”.  A variety of 20 or so food sampling stations were set up featuring all sorts of delicacies.

Pretty sunset Friday night.
